Social bookmarking is a way for people to share blogs, websites, articles, and other content that they have found interesting or useful on the net. It is a way to organize and share content for use by yourself at a later point in time or for others to find and enjoy.

Now, I must give you Rule #1 before we even get started with how to use social bookmarking sites. Well, it's actually a couple of basic etiquitte points to remember when starting your web social marketing campaign at sites like Digg, Del.icio.us, and Stumble Upon:

• Don't just add your own content in your bookmarks. You should actually take the time to look at other people's bookmarks and Digg or Stumble the ones that you like.
• Don't add every single dumb blog post you have across all the blogging platforms. Just stick to adding your website's home page urls and your best blog posts.
• Take the time to add friends at least on the main ones, then check out what your friends are adding from time to time.

Why shouldn't I add all of my posts and all of my pages for extra backlinks?

• You're trying to position yourself as an authority, not shove every bit of your web content down the throats of these people.
• Just as in every other aspect of web social marketing, you don't want to come accross as a marketer.

Action Plan

• Submit Your Site(s) To As Many Social Bookmarking Sites As You Can Handle. But don't submit every single page or you'll be accused of spamming. Submit either your home page or one or 2 of your best content pages.
• Make Sure That You Take The Time To Set Up Profiles At Whichever Ones You Use
• Don't Just Submit Your Own Content, Also Submit Other Content You Find Interesting
• Submit Your Blog Posts- Every Time You Write Something Worthwhile!!!
• Submit Your Articles (although I always put mine up on my blog to kill 2 birds with 1 stone)
• Submit your videos
• Add widgets to your blogs and websites so others can bookmark your sites and blogs
